How to Make Red Nether Brick In Minecraft. Step-by-Step Instructions.

Featured image credit: Mojang

In the Frostburn Update, Mojang introduced the Red Nether Brick block for players to find and craft. A reddish-hued brick, it clashes well with Nether Brick, but what is its purpose, and how do you craft it?

In this Minecraft tutorial, you can see everything you need to know about red nether brick and how to use it to make your builds look better than ever!

How to Find the Materials Needed to Craft Red Nether Brick

You can create red nether bricks from nether brick and nether wart blocks.

Both can be found in Nether Fortresses, though nether bricks can be smelted from netherrack.

So as you have probably already guessed, you have to venture into the horrors of the Nether; I hope you’re ready.

Follow the below steps to acquire the necessary materials to craft red nether brick.

  1. Once inside the Nether, mine a large amount of netherrack.
  2. Place the netherrack inside a furnace with a fuel source.
  3. Take the now-smelted nether bricks and set them aside for later.

Now that you have the nether bricks, it is time to get your hands on the nether wart, which is the more difficult.

Nether wart harvesting
Here I’m harvesting some nether wart simply by breaking them. The problem is not harvesting them – it’s finding them!

  1. Locate a Nether fortress by wandering around until you find it, using a triangulation trick or simply the /locate command.
  2. Once you have arrived at the Nether Fortress, you will need to head into the belly of the fortress.
  3. Small patches of nether wart growing on soul sand next to the stairs can be found scattered about.
  4. Harvest the nether wart by breaking it, then grab the soul sand.

You now have the materials necessary to make red nether bricks, so head back to your base or wherever you put the nether bricks from before.

Visiting the Nether? Why not steal the Dragon Egg?

How to Make Red Nether Brick

It is now time to craft your Red Nether Bricks finally. After all, you had to brave the horrors of the Nether and potentially fight off Wither Skeletons and Blazes that wanted you dead.

To craft a red nether brick block, place two nether bricks and two nether wart on the crafting table, as shown in the image below.

Red Nether Bricks recipe crafting
The next step is to craft some Red Nether Bricks. And yes – they’re bloody expensive! As you can see, I only get one from two wart and two nether bricks!

That will then make one singular block of Red Nether Brick. Yes, you heard that right.

It takes two nether wart and two nether bricks to make one singular red nether brick. You better start planting and harvesting that nether wart in mass.

What to use Red Nether Brick For

So now that you have some red nether brick blocks, what should you use them for?

After all, you just risked your life and spent a lot of resources on making them, so surely they have a ton of uses.

As of this writing, Red nether brick can only be used as a decorative block.

That being said, these stone bricks from the deep sure look good. Like all other stone blocks, you can use them to make various building blocks, as shown below.

Red Nether Brick Slabs Crafting Recipe

To make Red Nether Brick Slabs place three Red Nether Bricks on a horizontal line in the crafting grid as shown below. They make for some beautiful ceilings – fx in your basement or dungeon in a castle.

Red Nether Brick Stairs Crafting Recipe

As I’ve done below, place six Red Nether Bricks in the crafting area to make Red Nether Brick Stairs.

Red Nether Brick Walls Crafting Recipe

Place six Red Nether Bricks in the crafting menu to make Red Nether Brick Walls. Bloody expensive wall, if you ask me, but you get serious bragging rights if you’ve done this in survival!

Note you can make nether brick fences, but you can’t make RED nether brick fences. That’s because getting a single Red Nether Brick is impossible. I’ve even tried crafting one using 2 x Nether Brick, but that didn’t work either.

Having red nether brick fences with blast resistance would be cool, but no luck so far.

Kind of disappointing, but maybe Mojang will add in some other uses in the future, fingers crossed.

Red Nether Brick Minecraft Commands

If you get stuck or tired of mining in survival for Nether brick warts and blocks, you can cheat using Minecraft commands.

Type T to open the chat, and write /give @p at the beginning of the command. Then choose what you want from the list below.

Add a number of how many you want, like so:

Minecraft give command red nether number count
Use the /give command like so to provide yourself with any number of Red Nether Bricks.

Result:

Minecraft give command red nether 64 count
Totally cheating here, as I’ve just given myself 64 Red Nether Bricks!

Conclusion

Red nether brick is a cool-looking block, but due to its lack of real use currently, it seems over-expensive, but it can go well with nether brick to contrast it. If you found this article helpful, check out how to make Polished Granite! Until next time, happy gaming!
