Concrete has graced the Minecraft world since Minecraft version 1.12 on Java and Bedrock edition and version 1.1.0 on Pocket Edition.
It comes in 16 different colors, each of which can be easily acquired in survival mode if you are willing to find different flowers to make the dyes.
Keep reading to learn how to make light gray concrete powder in Minecraft and then how to transform it into concrete for building!

Gather the Necessary Materials
Before making the light gray concrete powder, you must gather the necessary materials: 4 sand, 4 gravel, and 1 light gray dye. The sand and gravel are easy to gather, as you can find them anywhere worldwide.
One of the best spots for both is the ocean floors, which are typically covered in gravel with spots of sand. On the other hand, getting enough light gray dye will be slightly more difficult.
Luckily, there are several ways that you can get your hands on the dye.
The first way is by placing any of the following flowers on the crafting menu:
- Oxeye Daisy
- Azure Blast.
The second way is by combining either one white dye with one gray dye or two white dyes with one black dye in the crafting grid.
White dye can be made from bone meal or lily of the valley, and black dye is made from ink sacs which squids drop.
Crafting Light Gray Concrete Powder
Now that you have the necessary materials to craft light gray concrete powder, it is time to make it finally. Follow the below step-by-step guide to craft it.
- Open your crafting table by right-clicking on it.
- Place four sand blocks as shown below.
- Next, place four blocks of gravel, as shown below.
- The final step is to place the light gray dye in the middle spot.
While having light gray concrete powder can be good enough, it’s not a very sturdy building material because it follows the rules of gravity.
For a game that is completely different from real life, Minecraft loves to occasionally throw in blocks that collapse to the ground when placed.

Transform Light Gray Concrete Powder into Concrete
Once you have all the light gray concrete powder you need, it is finally time to transform it into concrete you can use as building blocks in your various projects.
Since the past several updates, you can make concrete in two different ways.
The first and easiest way is to have water come into contact with the concrete.
For small amounts, most people will have one or more water source blocks with some flowing water where they place the concrete powder. It will then become solid concrete blocks.

While you can make your source of water with a water bucket, finding a naturally occurring body of water will also work.
The second method is using lava. You can now turn concrete powder into a block of concrete using a lava source block, as you would with water.
However, I would not recommend doing it via lava because you run the chance of burning yourself up or having the concrete burn up.
Giving Yourself Light Gray Concrete With Commands
If you don’t want to bother with gathering concrete in Minecraft, which can be a long process if you need a ton of it, there is a command to give yourself some.
Type in the give command to give yourself all the concrete you could ever want or need:
/give @p minecraft:light_gray_concrete_powder
For any other type of concrete, replace the item id with the id of the concrete that you want to give yourself.
Building Ideas for Concrete
So what’s the whole point of having concrete in Minecraft? Well, it is mostly used as a building block as you are unable to use it for anything else, so that means no concrete slabs and no concrete stairs.
It is unfortunate, but even so, the blocks can look pretty. In terms of strength, concrete has a higher hardness than stone but a lower blast resistance. So don’t be putting concrete where you are expecting to stop explosions.
Building-wise, concrete is perfect for any build where you want a smoother look than wool but don’t want the sharp colors of glazed terracotta. This makes it perfect for the floors of your home, especially if you are designing a kitchen or a bathroom.
Light-gray concrete can look amazing on bathroom walls, while white concrete makes a good contrast in a kitchen with black concrete.
If you need some more ideas on what you can use concrete for, check out the list below:
- A Modern-day styled house
- Sci-fi towers
- Nintendo Switch-themed home.
- Roads (black concrete and white concrete)
- Giant bucket
For a really meta build, you can make your concrete powder to concrete machine entirely out of concrete. If you don’t know how to make one, follow this video tutorial to help you build one.
It’s a fairly complicated machine, but it is the only way to process many concrete blocks efficiently.
Regardless of what types of concrete blocks you use in your builds, they will create beautiful smooth surfaces that will make your Minecraft creations pop! So get out there and start bringing your Minecraft world to life!
