Then your friend tells you he’s getting into the whole gaming thing, and he just managed to score six goals in a single game last night in Rocket League.
Always glad to help a new gaming disciple out (and eyeing an opportunity to show off your mad air dribbling skills), you say, “hey, maybe we can play a 1v1 tonight?”
Your friend says, “Sure! What’s your PSN username?”
WTF!? Did the idiot buy a PlayStation?
This is where cross-platform play (aka crossplay) comes into the picture.
So what is crossplay?
Crossplay means a video game offers players on one type of game hardware (fx, a PC) to play with others on other types (fx consoles).
As I’m always looking for games to play online with my friends who own other gaming platforms, I’ve created this post with cross-platform info on many different video games.
I’ve also included information on cross-gen, cross-progression, and cross-save whenever possible.

7 Days to Die
Is 7 Days to Die crossplay?
7 Days to Die supports crossplay between PC (Windows), Mac (macOS), and Linux. But it doesn’t support cross-play between PC/Mac/Linux and consoles and not between Xbox or PS4.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite
Is Aliens: Fireteam Elite crossplay?
Unfortunately, Aliens: Fireteam Elite isn’t cross-platform. That means you can only crossplay with friends on the same platform.
Is Aliens: Fireteam Elite cross-generation?
Yes, AFE is true cross-gen, so players on Xbox Series X/S or PS5 can play the native versions of the game together with players on Xbox One or PS4, respectively.
Is Aliens: Fireteam Elite cross-progression?
Unfortunately, Aliens Fireteam Elite doesn’t support cross-progression, aka cross-save.
This means you can’t transfer your save to the next-gen console even if you’ve unlocked a lot of stuff on fx PS4 or Xbox One and upgraded to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. You’ll have to start all over again from scratch.
Among Us
Is Among Us crossplay?
The short answer is yes, Among Us is cross-platform. That means the game supports cross-play even if you’re on a PC and your friends are on Nintendo Switch, Android, and iPhone devices.

However, each player needs to be located in the same server region. So, you can’t play with friends in Europe if you’re based in the US without a VPN.

How to set up an Among Us cross-play session in 3 easy steps:
- When logged into your account, select Create Game
- Select the Map, number of Imposters (1-3), Chat Laguage, and Max Players (between 4-15) you prefer, and then click Confirm.
- In the private game lobby, write down and share the code at the bottom of the screen with your friends.
Now friends can join your game by simply clicking Enter Code from the main menu, and typing in the code, you send them.
Is Among Us cross-progression?
No, Among Us doesn’t support cross-progression saves. You can’t transfer purchased DLCs (such as skins) to another platform.
However, you can transfer your ad-free purchase to a new smartphone or an iPad if you have purchased it for iPhone.
Anthem
Is Anthem crossplay?
No, unfortunately, Anthem is not cross-platform. Furthermore, since February 2021, Anthem didn’t see any further development.
Apex Legends
Is Apex Legends crossplay?
Apex Legends is true cross platform between PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation. However, Apex Legends is only cross-progression between Steam and Origin.
Apex Legends is not the same game as Apex Legends Mobile. So Apex Legends does not support cross-play between PC/consoles and smartphones.

How to turn off cross-play in Apex Legends
Cross-play is on as default when you first fire up the game. But if you want to turn it off, here’s how:
- Go to the lobby
- Choose the game menu via the cogwheel (bottom right corner of the screen)
- Choose Settings
- Scroll down to Cross Platform Play
- Choose ‘Disabled’ to turn it off.
Is Apex Legends cross-progression?
Apex Legends currently only have cross-progression on PC. You can save your progress, items, etc., across Steam and Origin accounts. But you can’t keep your loot if you move to game consoles and vice versa.
The reason is that you get different advantages on different platforms. Fx, it’s much easier to aim precisely with a mouse than with a controller.
Ark Survival
Is Ark Survival crossplay?
Ark Survival supports cross-platform play between a PC running Microsoft Windows and Xbox One and X/S – but only if you’ve purchased it through Windows Store.
Ark Survival also supports cross-platform between Windows, Linux, and macOS – but only if you’ve purchased it through Steam!
If you own a PlayStation 4 or 5, you can only play with others using a PS4 or PS5.
You can cross-play Ark Survival between iOS and Android devices but no other platforms.
If you own a Nintendo Switch, you can only go dinosaur hunting with other Nintendo Switch users.

Is Astroneer crossplay?
Astroneer supports cross-platform play with up to 8 players between Xbox, PC (Microsoft Windows), and PS4 – but only on dedicated servers.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve purchased the game through Windows Store or Steam.
If you own a Nintendo Switch, you can only play together with other Nintendo Switch owners online. Or you can play with up to 4 friends over a local wireless network.

Is Back 4 Blood crossplay?
Good news, zombie slayers! B4B is a true cross-platform, meaning you can crossplay with friends on PC, Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5.
How do I enable crossplay in Back 4 Blood?
- Open the Play Menu in the Fort Hope lobby
- Navigate to and click on Matchmaking Preferences
- Toggle crossplay on or off at the bottom of the list of options.
Is Back 4 Blood support cross-progression?
Back 4 Blood supports cross-progression within the same platform system only. That means that cross-progression (aka cross save) is only supported fx between PS4 and PS5, but not between PlayStation and Xbox.
This also means Back 4 Blood doesn’t support cross-progression between Steam and Game Pass/Microsoft ecosystem.
Battlefield 1
Is Battlefield 1 crossplay?
Battlefield 1 doesn’t offer cross-play between any of the platforms (PC, Xbox, or PlayStation).
Is Battlefield 1 cross-generation?
No!
Is Battlefield 1 cross-progression?
This is, again, a big no! Unfortunately, Battlefield 1 doesn’t support cross-progression play. So if you’ve leveled up your soldiers and gear on one platform, you must start from scratch again if you move to a new one.
Battlefield 5
Is Battlefield 5 crossplay?
No, Battlefield 5 isn’t cross-platform between any supported platforms (PC, Xbox One, or PlayStation 4/5).
Is Battlefield 5 cross-generation?
Yes, through backward compatibility on PS5/PS4.
Is Battlefield 5 cross-progression?
No!
Battlefield 2042
Is Battlefield 2042 crossplay?
Battlefield 2042 is cross-platform to some extend, meaning that PC, PS5, and Xbox X/S can play together on maps with up to 128 players. Furthermore, PC and console can opt out of playing together. PS4 and Xbox One can play together on servers with up to 64 players.

Yes, Battlefield 2042 supports cross-progression and cross-purchases, i.e., when you buy something on PlayStation, it is also accessible if you move to a PC or Xbox.
Black Desert
Is Black Desert crossplay?
Black Desert Online supports cross-platform play between PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
However, it doesn’t support cross-play between PC and console versions.
Also, BDO doesn’t support crossplay between the game’s mobile and PC/console versions. But iOS and Android users can play together on the same servers.

Is Black Desert cross-generation?
BDO is cross-gen between Xbox One/Series and PS5/PS4 through backward compatibility.
Is Black Desert cross-progression?
Unfortunately, Black Desert doesn’t support cross-progression, meaning you can’t transfer your saves or progressions between Xbox and PlayStation even though the game is cross-play.
Borderlands 2
Is Borderlands 2 crossplay?
Borderlands 2 isn’t cross-platform between PC and consoles.
However, it is possible to cross-play BL2 between Mac and PC and Mac and Linux.
How to Crossplay between PC and Mac
On PC, you need to roll back to version 1.8.5, which allows you to connect with Mac players. You’ll find a tutorial and links to version 1.8.5 here on Steam.
After downgrading the game, you won’t be able to connect with other Windows players who haven’t rolled back the game to v.1.8.5.
How to Crossplay between Mac and Linux
Borderlands 2 supports cross-platform play between Mac and Linux if you use a few tricks.
On Linux, you need to use ProtonDB to run the Windows version of the game. Then you need to roll back the game to version 1.8.5, which you can find here.
After downgrading the game, you won’t be able to connect with other Windows players who haven’t rolled back the game to v.1.8.5.
Borderlands 2 does not support cross-play on PS Vita, Android, or Nintendo Switch.
Borderlands 3
Is Borderlands 3 crossplay?
Borderlands 3 offers cross-platform crossplay support through SHiFT Matchmaking between PC (Microsoft Windows) via Steam and Epic Games Store, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Mac (macOS).
But it doesn’t support cross-play support between Sony PlayStation and other platforms.

How to crossplay Borderlands 3 via SHiFT Matchmaking in three simple steps
Here’s how to set up cross-play in Borderlands 3 in three easy steps:
- In Borderlands 3, do so when prompted with the option to enable cross-play.
- Choose your unique name. It must be between 3-16 characters long, start with a letter, and be limited to a-z, A-Z, 0-9, underscore a hyphen, period, and full-stop characters.
Note. You can always change your display name on your SHiFT account page later. - Go to the main menu and select Social. Invite your friends to join the lobby.
Is Borderlands 3 cross-progression?
Unfortunately, Borderlands 3 doesn’t support cross-progression between major platforms, such as from PC to PlayStation, PC to Xbox, or vice versa.
However, you can manually transfer your saved files between Steam and Epic Game Store accounts, moving the data to your hard drive.
How to cross-save on PS4 and PS5
Also, you can transfer your saves from PS4 to PS5 but not the other way around:
- Choose ‘Upload Save’ from the Borderlands 3 main menu when logged in to your PS4 account
- On PS5, under ‘Play,‘ choose ‘Download Save’ and choose the PS4 you’ve transferred
How to cross-save on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S
If you’re on Xbox One and updated to Xbox Series X/S, your files will automatically be uploaded to the cloud and transferred to the next-gen console once you’ve logged in to the same Xbox Account.
Brawlhalla
Is Brawlhalla crossplay?
Brawlhalla is a cross-platform game that supports crossplay between PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and even Android and iOS.
Is Brawlhalla cross-generation?
Yes, through backward compatibility.
Is Brawlhalla cross-progression?
Unfortunately, Brawlhalla doesn’t have cross-progression, meaning that you can’t transfer your data or cross-saves between the different platforms.
I keep hearing rumors about BrawlhallaGO and cross-progression on mobile, but nothing has been confirmed. I’ll update this post if it ever comes true.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
Is Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 crossplay?
No, Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is not cross-platform! That means you can’t crossplay between PC, Xbox, or PS4.
Is CoD BO3 cross-generation?
Yes, BO3 supports cross-gen play between Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S through backward compatibility. Likewise, you can play BO3 multiplayer between PS5 and PS4 through backward compatibility.
Is CoD BO3 cross-progression?
Unfortunately, CoD: Black Ops 3 doesn’t support cross-save and cross-progression between platforms.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Is Call of Duty Black Ops 4 crossplay?
No, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 isn’t cross-platform. That means you’re out of luck if you’re on PC and want to play with friends on Xbox (One or X) or PlayStation (PS4/PS5).
Is Call of Duty Black Ops 4 cross-generation?

Call of Duty: Cold War
Is Call of Duty Cold War crossplay?
Yes, Call of Duty Cold War is a true cross-platform game. That means if you’re on PC, you can play with other players on Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S as well as PS4 and PS5 and vice versa.
How to enable cross-play in Call of Duty Cold War in 3 easy steps
To enable cross-play in CoD Cold War, follow these steps:
- Go to the menu
- Click on the ‘Account & Network’ tab (right-hand side at the top of the screen).
- Go to the 2nd option from the top that says ‘crossplay’. If it isn’t enabled already, click the option arrows to enable it.
If crossplay is disabled, you’ll only be able to play with other players on the same platform as yourself.
To find and add your friends on a different platform, navigate to the ‘Friends’ menu.
On the console, you can use these shortcuts to open the ‘Add Activision Friends’ menu quickly:
- Xbox – Press ‘Y’
- PlayStation – Press ‘Triangle’
Then type in your friend’s Activision ID, and press ‘Send Friend Request’.
After they’ve accepted your friend request, your friends will show up under the Friends tab, and you can click on the name and choose Invite to party.
Is Call of Duty Cold War cross-generation?
Yes, Call of Duty Cold War is cross-generation. That means you can cross-play with friends on fx Xbox One if you’re on Xbox Series X/S. The same is true if fx you’re on PS5 and they’re on PS4.
If you own a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, there are two cross-gen modes you can play the game in:
The first is backward compatibility which is essentially the same game as the PS4 or Xbox One version.
The second mode is an enhanced mode where you’ll get higher resolution, better frame rates, faster loading times, and more.
If you’ve purchased a digital PS4 or Xbox One version of CoD Warzone, you can seamlessly upgrade to the PS5, and Xbox Series X/S enhanced versions.
If you’ve purchased a physical copy of the PS4 or Xbox One version, you can do the same – but the disc has to be in the PS5 or Xbox Series X for you to play the updated version. So you can’t play the enhanced digital version and lend the disc to a friend.
However, if you’ve purchased a physical copy for PS5 or Xbox Series X, you can’t use it for PS4 or Xbox One.
Also, you can’t buy a PS4 version and then upgrade it to an Xbox Series X version. Likewise, you can’t buy the Xbox One version and upgrade it to the PS5 version. In other words: cross-gen upgrades are platform-specific.
Is Call of Duty: Cold War cross-progression?
Yes, Cold War supports cross-save across all the platforms, as long as you’re logged in to the same Activision/Call of Duty account. You can even use items you unlock in Cold War in CoD Warzone and vice versa.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
Is Call of Duty Modern Warfare crossplay?
Yes, Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a true cross-platform game. So if you’re on PC, you can play with other players on Xbox One or Xbox Series X as well as PS4 and PS5.
Is CoD: Modern Warfare cross-generation?
Yes, Call of Duty Modern Warfare is cross-generation. That means you can cross-play with friends on fx Xbox One if you’re on Xbox Series X. The same is true if fx you’re on PS5 and they’re on PS4.
If you’ve purchased a digital PS4 or Xbox One version of CoD Warzone, you can seamlessly upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions with better textures and 4K support.
Of course, you can’t buy a PS4 version and upgrade it to an Xbox Series X version. Likewise, you can’t buy the Xbox One version and upgrade it to the PS5 version. In other words: cross-gen upgrades are platform-specific.
Is COD: MW cross-progression?
Yes, CoD Modern Warfare supports cross-progression and cross-save. Everything you unlock in Modern Warfare is automatically saved to your Activision/Call of Duty account and transferred to other platforms.
Everything you unlock in Modern Warfare is accessible in Warzone and vice versa.
However, items you unlock in Modern Warfare can’t be used in Cold War and vice versa.
Call of Duty: Vanguard
Is Call of Duty Vanguard crossplay?
Yes, CoD Vanguard is truly cross-platform. That means you can crossplay Call of Duty Vanguard between PC and all consoles and vice versa.
Is Call of Duty Vanguard cross-generation?
Yes.
Can I play CoD Vanguard on PS5 without the disc if I upgrade?
Unfortunately, if you own the PS4 standard edition of CoD Vanguard and upgrade to the digital version on PS5, you still need to have the disc inserted.
That means you can’t give the disc to a friend and play together from the upgraded digital version because it’s essentially the same licensed version of the game.
For both Xbox and Playstation, this also means that physical editions of the game (including upgrades) can’t be played on a disc-less version of PS5 or Xbox Series X.
Is CoD Vanguard cross-progression?
Yes, Call of Duty: Vanguard is cross-progression. Everything from your profile, in-game progression, and digital content (such as skins) is available to you from any platform if you log in on the same Activision account.
Call of Duty: Warzone
Is Call of Duty Warzone crossplay?
Yes, Call of Duty Warzone is a cross-platform game that supports cross-play between all supported platforms (PC, Xbox One/Series, and PS4/PS5).
Is CoD Warzone cross-progression?
Yes, CoD Warzone supports cross-progression and cross-save. Everything you unlock in Warzone is automatically saved to your Activision/Call of Duty account and transferred to other platforms.
Everything you unlock in Warzone is also accessible in CoD Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare – but only if all the platforms you play CoD Warzone on are linked to the same Activision/Call of Duty account.
Likewise, items you unlock in Cold War and Modern Warfare are available in Warzone if linked to the same account.
However, items you unlock in Cold War can’t be used in Modern Warfare and vice versa.
Castle Crashers
Is Castle Crashers crossplay?
Castle Crashers isn’t true cross-platform, which means that if you’re on a PC or Mac, you can’t play together with consoles and vice versa.
However, players on Microsoft Windows can play together with friends on macOS.
Conan Exiles
Is Conan Exiles crossplay?
Conan Exiles isn’t cross-platform, meaning you can’t cross-play with friends on either Xbox (One or X/S) or PlayStation (PS4 or PS5) if you’re on a PC running Microsoft Windows and vice versa.
However, on PC, there’s crossplay between Microsoft Store and Steam.
Can you transfer characters between servers in Conan Exiles?
Yes, since update 2.5, it is now possible to transfer characters between servers. This means that you can transfer characters between Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah servers and between official and unofficial servers.
You’ll keep the character name, level, appearance, feats, and main inventory of a non-overburdened character.
Note there are some important limitations:
- you can only have one character on each server.
- you can transfer from an official to an unofficial server but not from unofficial to official server
- you can transfer from a PvP server to a PvE server but not from PvE to PvP
- there’s a 24-hour cooldown between each transfer on PvE servers and a 7-day cooldown on PvP servers to avoid exploitation.
Dark Souls 3
Is Dark Souls 3 crossplay?
Dark Souls 3 isn’t cross-platform, meaning DS3 does not support crossplay between PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
In other words, PC players can only play with other PC players, PS4 players with other PS4 players, and Xbox One players with other Xbox One players.
DayZ
Is DayZ crossplay?
Unfortunately, DayZ isn’t cross-platform, meaning there’s no crossplay between PC, PlayStation (PS4 and PS5), or Xbox (One and X/S).

Locally stored progress includes system settings, Gear Sets, Hotbars, and HUD layout. These are all saved locally on your hard drive. To transfer these, you must save them to your character on the character screen.
Remember to save global and character-specific settings to access these on another platform. When logging into the game on the new platform, you can download these settings again to make the game look the same.
Server-side stored progress is things like your story progress, job levels, etc. These are already cross-saved on the server side, so you must log in to access these from another platform to continue your progress.
You should also note that if you don’t purchase a license for the same DLCs on both platforms, you can’t access any DLC expansion zones on the platform that hasn’t got a license for this.
For Honor
