What Does Quick Charge Do in Minecraft? [Illustrated Guide]

Crossbows are one of the best weapons in Minecraft, but much like other items in the game, crossbow enchantments can improve it.

Many enchantments exist for it, but Quick Charge is one of the best.

If you are tired of having your bow take forever to reload or want to fire arrows like a mad person, keep reading about what Quick Charge does in Minecraft!

What is the Quick Charge Enchantment?

The Quick Charge enchantment decreases the amount of time it takes to charge or reload a crossbow.

Unfortunately, Vanilla Minecraft players cannot apply it to a regular bow in Java Edition or Bedrock Edition.

While sad, nothing is better than slaughtering mods with an enchanted crossbow.

Enchantment Levels

There are currently three different levels to the Quick Charge enchantment, with Quick Charge III being the highest level you can apply to a crossbow.

Every level reduces the reloading time slightly, with Quick Charge III making a crossbow reload in 0.5 seconds.

That is a huge difference from the usual 1.25 seconds. So you will want to get the maximum level of Quick Charge as soon as possible if using a crossbow and save yourself a lot of time.

Ways to Get the Quick Charge Enchantment

Currently, there are four main ways of acquiring the Quick Charge enchantment.

These are using the enchanting table, trading with a librarian villager, finding it in a loot chest, or fishing.

You can occasionally get a normal crossbow by killing pillagers, with a tiny chance of it being enchanted.

Enchanting Table

Using an enchanting table, you can only get Quick Charge I and Quick Charge II on your crossbow. You cannot get Quick Charge III even with the maximum level of bookshelves.

To enchant your crossbow, place it inside the enchanting table alongside some lapis lazuli. You will then have to spend some experience points and lapis to enchant your crossbow.

If Quick Charge is not available, there is a trick you can do. You can re-roll the enchantments by placing a book inside the table and making an enchanted book.

Librarian Villager

The second way of acquiring Quick Charge is by trading with a Librarian Villager. Unlike the enchantment table, you can get all three levels of Quick Charge.

On Minecraft Java, getting a Quick Charge book will cost you between 5-64 emeralds and a book.

Loot Chests

If you want to potentially find Quick Charge while exploring the magical world of Minecraft, there are some places you can find it.

These places include the Jungle Temple, Desert Pyramid, and Abandoned Mineshaft.

There is also a small chance of finding it in the loot chests of dungeons or the loot chests of library rooms in Strongholds.

So always check chests because you never know what type of chest loot you will find.

Commands

You can use commands to give yourself Quick Charge levels higher than Quick Charge III.

Use the following command:

/give @p minecraft:crossbow{Enchantments:[{id:”minecraft:quick_charge”,lvl:5}]}

You can replace the quick charge level with any level you want to get an insane reload time.

Fishing

The final main way is fishing with a fishing pole in any body of water.

There is a minuscule chance of receiving a Quick Charge book while fishing, but there is a chance.

Use the Luck of the Sea enchantment to heighten your chances of reeling in an enchanted book. It is one of the best Minecraft enchantments for the fishing rod.

How to Apply the Quick Charge Enchantment

Now that you have the Quick Charge enchantment, it is time to apply it to your crossbow and reduce the regular loading time.

You will need an anvil to do this, so follow the quick recipe below if you do not already have one.

Place four iron ingots, as shown below in the image.

Take out the completed Anvil, place it somewhere in your world, and open it by right-clicking.

The crossbow goes in the left-hand slot, and the Quick Charge enchanted book goes in the right-hand slot.

It will charge you some enchantment points, but now your crossbow is ready to go!

Best Enchantments to Pair With Quick Charge

If you want to make the most of your crossbow, you will want to add some additional enchantments to your crossbow alongside Quick Charge.

I recommend putting Mending, Unbreaking, and Piercing on your crossbow for the most powerful crossbow possible.

It is important to note that you cannot have multi-shot on a crossbow with Quick Charge. So choose wisely between firing at high speeds or shooting multiple arrows with one arrow.

Conclusion

Enchanting in Minecraft is an excellent way of increasing the power of your tools, weapons, and armor, and Quick Charge is no different.
